Axolotl Salt Mix – 20 Gallon Mix

Please note that axolotls are freshwater amphibians. This salt is not intended to, and will not bring the salinity levels of the water to the levels which would be found in a saltwater aquarium. 

As amphibians coated with a delicate layer known as a slime coat, axolotls are prone to fungal infections. Fungal infections commonly appear in the form of a white substance comparable to torn apart cotton balls around the feet and gills. Other fungal infections can sometimes look like strange growths. 

This salt mix can be used as either a preventative measure, or as a treatment. Even if you do not plan on using this while starting up your aquarium, it is a good idea to have this just in case.

Avoid handling or touching axolotls to minimize risk of infection. If there are circumstances where an adult must touch an axolotl, that adult should thoroughly wash their hands with soap and water. 

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR AXOLOTL TO COME IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH SALT, MAKE SURE THAT THE SALT IS FULLY DISSOLVED FIRST! While this treatment is very effective, salt crystals that have not yet dissolved will cause harm to the skin of your axolotl. Once the salt is dissolved into the water, it is perfectly safe.
